Formed in 1996 the Health Network’s goal is to stop the privatization of the public health care system, ensure high level of care, and create a forum of people and communities to discuss issues related to health care.
The Health Network is a coalition of local health committees, community groups, organized labour, faith groups and concerned individuals dedicated to protecting, strengthening, and expanding public health care to include services like pharmacare, dental care, long-term care and home care.
The Health Network is political but non-partisan and receives no government funding. Our budget comes strictly from our members.

Mental Health Care Report A Step in the Right Direction
Halifax, NS – The Nova Scotia Citizens’ Health Care Network says the new provincial plan for mental health care is a good step in the right direction. The plan addresses many of the concerns raised by the advisory committee and by advocates around the province.
“Mental health care is the number one issue we heard about in 9 town hall meetings we held over the fall and winter,” says Kyle Buott, Provincial Coordinator of the Health Network. “The province has articulated a clear plan to begin to address the holes in mental health care.”

Ambulance Fees Reduction A Good First Step
Halifax, NS – The Nova Scotia Citizens’ Health Care Network is very pleased to see the provincial government is moving to reduce ambulance fees. The Health Network has been campaigning against ambulance fees for years as no one should need to pay to access health care.
“Today’s announcement of reduced fees to access ambulance services for nursing home residents and low-income families is an important step forward,” says Kyle Buott, Provincial Coordinator of the Health Network. “We’re pleased to see the government acting on one of Dr John Ross’s key recommendations for improving public health care.”

Cuts won’t cure care

Nova Scotians are understandably worried about disruptions at Capital Health. With wait times as long as they are, no one wants to hear that their surgery has been cancelled. Nobody understands the human element of health care better than workers themselves, who see the challenges of the system daily as they care for us. The decision to go on strike is not taken lightly.

Halifax, NS – The Nova Scotia Citizens’ Health Care Network is disappointed to hear that conciliation talks have broken down between the Capital Health and 3,500 front-line health care workers, represented by NSGEU 42. The Health Network firmly believes health care workers deserve fair and adequate compensation for the important work they do. The workers’ wage demand is below the rate of inflation.
- April 19/12 – Media release: Morning Rush Hour Action
Health Network to Greet Commuters Friday Morning
Halifax, NS – Public health care activists and supporters will be greeting Halifax commuters on their way to work and call for public health care to be protected, strengthened and extended. Organized by the Nova Scotia Citizen’s Health Care Network, activists will be holding signs by the roadside by the MacDonald Bridge on Friday, April 20th, 2012 from 7:30 am to 9:30 am.
- Call to Care 2014 – Morning Rush Hour Action
The Nova Scotia Citizen’s Health Network is working to raise the profile of the 2014 health accords in the general public. An action is being planned for Friday, April 20th to get the attention of morning commuters in Halifax.
